Free Downloads for your home PC:
Security Programs:
- ERUNT--Registry back up. Believe me when I say this program works better than Windows System Restore. I ensure my registry is backed up with this program. I then store the back up on the desktop for easy retrieval.
- House Call (Trend Micro)--I use this service weekly. An excellent online Virus Checker. Check mark the appropriate box (C drive is a good choice), check mark "Auto Clean", click on "SCAN".
- Avast --A complete certified and Secure antivirus software for home noncommercial use. Avast includes an On Demand Scanner, and extras. Another free download.
- Reg Seeker--A registry cleaner that works really well. Do not attempt to use if you're unsure of what you're doing, and always back up the registry before using. Search for an item inside your registry, export/delete the results, open them in the registry. Also includes a tweaks panel to optimize your OS, and a file tool to search for duplicate files, bad shortcuts etc.
- Ad-aware SE Personal Edition 1.06-- Download this program to Scan your system for adware/spyware, and remove them.
- Zone Alarm--
Award-winning personal firewall - provides the basic protection individuals need to secure their PC from intrusion.
- AVG AntiVirus-- Another Anti Virus program that starts when I turn on the PC.
- AVG AntiRootkit-- First beta version of AVGs Anti-Rootkit, an advanced utility designed to detect and remove hidden objects known as Rootkits, from your system.
- Win Patrol-- This program really works well. Lets you know when an installed program tries to add an icon to the tray at boot-up, you'll get a WinPatrol warning--and a way to stop it. Skip the Plus version.
Utility Programs:
- Picasa-- Perhaps the best free Photography program on the net - Indispensable. And from Google.
- C Cleaner--I use CCleaner often, every day. An excellent and free PC optimization tool. It removes unused and temporary files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster, more efficiently and giving you more hard disk space. Use carefully, it's very powerful.
- MW Snap-- An excellent program for making screen captures and more.
- Belarc--The Belarc Advisor gives you a report of the hardware and software installed on your computer. Great information tool to help understand your PC.
- Copernic--Excellent search engine.
- Irfanview--Possibly the most popular and feature packed free image viewer for Windows.
- The Google Toolbar (it comes w/a pop-up stopper)
- Yankee Clipper Click on download. "A super powerful Windows clipboard extender/memory. Handles Pictures, Richtext, URLS, etc - any size. Features printing, drag and drop, optional permanent storage of clippings."
- E-cleaner If you're going to forward e-mail, and who doesn't, Remove"those annoying '>' symbols that accumulate when an e- mail is forwarded".
- StripmailSimilar to E-cleaner, Strips the characters ">" and "|" from forwarded e-mails.
Formats the text into paragraphs, making it easier to read.
Changes the text's right margin, by indenting.
Can be used with any e-mail client.
- AM-DeadLink 1.42 Detects dead links and duplicates in your browser bookmarks.
- RSS Reader For RSS feeds (news, health etc.) to your desktop.
- Tiny Spell I would be lost without this. A great little spell checker that monitors all your typing and lets you know when it detects a misspelled word. Also supplies suggested correct spellings.
