If a planned outing is rained out, as it sometimes happens, try some of the fun things below or take a look at the book reviews here.

For the kids.

Silly Putty or Slime (as some people call it) is really fun, however, it's much more fun when you make it yourself. And you can vary the ingredients to concoct your own special kind.

Here's the recipe I use:

(Use caution and have an adult present before following directions.)

Step 1. Dissolve ¼ teaspoon Borax in 1 tablespoon of water.
Step 2. Mix thoroughly 1 and ½ tablespoons white glue (Elmer's) and 1 and ½ tablespoons of water (a drop of food coloring may be added and mixed in).
Step 3. With a craft stick (or similar instrument) mix both solutions (from steps 1 & 2) until you have slime. Better yet mix both solutions in a sandwich size sealed, plastic, baggie which can be reused to store the slime (in the fridge).

And enjoy playing w/the stuff you've made - it's really c-o-o-l . It really is.

Puzzles - I've always been fascinated with maps, and you can follow this link to test your knowledge with a map of the United States. I managed to, correctly, place 47 of 48 states, on the map, when last I tried.
